Magda Hueckel

Magda Hueckel, visual artist (Poland)

Visual artist, theatre photographer, set designer, traveller, creator of over a dozen projects (photography, photo installation, video). Graduate of the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, where she specialised in photography and set design. Also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and the Schule für Gestaltung in St. Gallen. In 2002, she and Agata Serafin formed the photographic duo hueckelserafin, which in 2004 received the Sopot Muse for Young Artists Prize awarded by the Mayor of Sopot. In 2013 she published the Anima. Obrazy z Afryki 2005-2013 photo book, nominated for the 2014 Photographic Publication of the Year award. Her exhibitions include Moore and Auschwitz at Tate Britain in London (2010). Has produced photographic documentations of almost a hundred theatre shows, collaborating on a permanent basis with the New Theatre in Warsaw, Polish Theatre in Bydgoszcz, National Old Theatre in Krakow and many leading Polish directors. She also works as a photographer and film producer with Tomasz Śliwiński; their autobiographical documentary Our Curse was nominated for an Oscar in 2015.
